With a large collection of modern and contemporary Iranian art and 12 well-known visual artists in attendance, Assar Art Gallery plays a significant role in Tehran’s artistic landscape.

Founded by architects, Anoushiravan Soltan Attar and Hamid Agah, the gallery opened its doors in October 1999 under the direction of Omid Tehrani and operated for 4 years in Darakeh, an area on the hillsides of the Alborz range north of the city.

Independent from its founders and through important support from Mrs. Keyhan (Alavi), one of the great patrons of the arts, the gallery later relocated and is now based in one of city’s most important cultural districts in centre of town.

Ever since its establishment, Assar has been highlighting the works of emerging and established visual artists. As well as the main gallery, Assar now operates through its several offices including the head office, the international office and the main warehouse all located in north of Tehran and is soon to add two extra exhibition floors to its existing gallery space.

Beside promoting art, Assar also consults and advises collectors and art dealers and is dedicated to find, train and sponsor new talent in fields of collecting, curating and art dealing.

The gallery’s mission is to engage artists and audiences through an ambitious program of exhibitions, collections, collaborations and publications both domestically and internationally. It also identifies and supports the most significant works of art within the Iranian cultural scene and aims to bring 20th century Iranian art to the attention of the rest of the world.

Saturday to Thursday 11AM-8PM
THE GALLERY IS CLOSED ON FRIDAYS EXCEPT FOR EXHIBITION OPENINGS.
