Childish curiosity and fascination. Bizarre feelings before majestic and horrifying Nature. An enormous solitude. A marshland flourishing more every day. Shahriar Hatami’s subjective world is made of all these, with death as its main theme; not only fear of death but its proximity and familiarity. The artist believes that, as it were, mankind is disintegrating its species. Agony is the main theme of his recent works; acts of torture which only human beings can inflict on each other.

In these works, Hatami has attempted to create beautiful and spectacular landscapes through details of strange events and horrific tragedies. While watching these works, one may experience a variety of feelings, from aesthetic pleasure to disgust; and perhaps even joyful relief as one is safe from the horror going on in the realm of these works
